Swaziland, wedged between Mozambique and South Africa, tiny Swaziland is one of the smallest countries in Africa. But dynamite, they say, comes in small packages and the advantage of a trip to Swaziland is that you’ll escape most of the flock of tourists who don’t cross the border from South Africa. The beautiful People of Swaziland live up to their motto: “We are a Fortress, We are a mystery, and We hide ourselves away.”

The locals in Swaziland take pride in their hospitality and despite their hardships, the people are one of the country’s biggest drawcards.

The country is also one of the last remaining absolute monarchies in the world so when you visit, it’s fair to say you’re visiting the Kingdom of Swaziland. It has a nice ring to it.

The stunning landscapes, reserves and parks supply plenty of opportunities for game viewing and the country remains one of the best places in the world to see the near-extinct Black Rhino in the wild.

The rugged Malolotja Nature Reserve and the Ezulwini Valley provide views and wildlife that will leave you open-mouthed in wonder. And there’s great fishing to be enjoyed at Mlawula Nature Reserve.

Enjoy a hike – for an afternoon or a week, visit the Malolotja Falls, enjoy a packed lunch at the top of Sibebe Mountain and then wash off in a hot mineral spring which are plentiful around the country.

Want more adventure? Navigate the rapids on the Usutu River on a white-water rafting trip.

For those less reckless, the Manzini market and Ngwenya Glass Factory give visitors an insight into local crafts and skill. Be prepared to barter and you could just walk away with a bargain.
